Built before 1780 across the Ettlingen Castle. About 1784 modified by Ignaz Stein, the Thurn und Taxis Postmaster, to be a post-house.


On January 15, 1788 the Margrave of Baden grants the general liquor licence.


In 1912, Jakob and Julie Gietz purchase the Erbprinz.


In 1934, Helmuth Gietz takes over the Erbprinz after his father’s death and leads it to the highest gastronomic honours.


In 1988, the Erbprinz celebrates its 200-year gastronomic anniversary.


On January 1, 1999 Annemarie Gietz hands over the Erbprinz, which had been family-owned for 87 years, to the restaurant proprietors Heidrun and Bernhard Zepf.


In 1999, the Erbprinz disposes of three conference rooms accommodating up to 100 people.


In 2000, the shopping mall “Galerie 1A” (Gallery 1A) opens, accommodating the “Erbprinz-Boutique” and the children’s toy store “Kleiner Prinz” (Little Prince).


In 2003, the hotel is expanded with the “Wellness-Oase” (Spa Oasis) with several whirlpools and saunas.


From 2004 on, the newly built hotel is finished. Now the Erbprinz offers its guests 83 rooms, and is awarded 5 stars by the DEHOGA (German Hotel and Restaurant Association).


In 2007, 16.5 points are awarded by the Gault Millau.


In 2008, Ralph Knebel becomes the new executive chef in the Erbprinz Hotel-Restaurant. His wife Jasmina supports him as chief pastry cook.


2009 begins another big addition and conversion measure. Until the summer of 2010, the existing buildings are renovated and new rooms, a swimming pool and an additional conference area are built.


On November 7, 2010 the new building is inaugurated in a ceremonial act. The DEHOGA awards the Erbprinz Hotel the 5 Star Superior rating.


In October 2011, the Erbprinz Weinkontor (Wine Merchant) opens. 25 of the best winemakers from Baden present 5 of their wines here.


In November 2011, the Erbprinz ALM opens its doors for the first time. The Erbprinz ALM will complete the culinary offerings with traditional, good and solid meals and will be located on the upper car park of the Erbprinz during the winter months .


In November 2012 Guide Michelin acknowledged the performance of chef de cuisine Ralph Knebel with one star. The Weinstube Sibylla receives the popular Bib Gourmand for the third time.


Since 2013 the Erbprinz is a member of the association FEINE PRIVATHOTELS. FEINE PRIVATHOTELS is a group of hoteliers that share common values and passions: The sense for the real, a passion for culture and vitality as well as unconditional engagement for individual hospitality. All hotels are part of the luxury category and their kitchens won many awards.
